What’s the Engine, Transmission, and Performance of the 2024 Lexus IS?
The 2024 IS has three engine options: a 241-hp turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder in the IS300, a 311-hp V-6 in the IS350, and a 472-hp V-8 in the IS500. The IS300 and IS350 can be had with all-wheel drive; the IS500 is rear-drive only. The naturally aspirated V6 is silky smooth and builds power evenly from idle to redline. The transmission shifts gears a lot, but at least it’s quick and smooth while doing it. The IS’ steering, brakes, and overall handling are much more impressive than the engine.

The rear-wheel-drive IS300 is the most fuel-efficient model and carries EPA estimates of 31 mpg highway and 21 mpg city. Interior, Comfort & Quality Of The 2024 Lexus IS
The compact sedan is not nearly as spacious as the similarly priced front-wheel-drive ES sedan. There’s also not enough space for personal belongings. Everything you see and touch, though, is befitting of a Lexus. Power front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and push-button start are all standard features, while a power sunroof is optional. The faux leather feels as soft as the real deal.
The front seats of the 2024 IS don’t have as many available adjustments as the seats in some other luxury sedans, but the basic shape is so good that you settle in quickly. The climate control system and the heated and ventilated seats work well to keep you comfortable. The car is quiet, too, though the F Sport’s optional summer tires produce a bit more noise than we expect from a Lexus.
The 2024 Lexus IS uses an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system as standard; a larger 10.3-inch display is optional and comes bundled with in-dash navigation. Both use a console-mounted touchpad, a somewhat unusual arrangement. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa are compatible with either system. It also uses a Mark Levinson premium stereo system as an option, but this time it has 17 speakers and 1800 watts of power.
Also, the infotainment system of the IS uses a touchscreen interface, so controlling features such as the audio, navigation or standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is relatively simple. The IS features voice commands, too, though they’re limited compared to some rival systems.
