Wondering what years are the most reliable for Ford Edge? Read this comparison guide to find out The Ford Edge was introduced around 2007 or early 2007, it was an exceptional crossover midsize SUV that was a great pick for both families and even at times adventurers, though when we talk about vehicles in general, every car has the best and worst years.

This is why you must be aware of the worst years for Ford Edge, as it will turn out to be extremely useful for you when you make a purchase decision. Let’s start with the worst models of the car,

2011 Ford Edge

This one is on the list because the Ford Edge 2011 had some major issues lined up in itself; for starters, it had engine issues, brake problems, transmission issues along with electrical issues. The engine used to lose its power and even some drivers have reported that the engine of the car died while they were on the road, which has been a major issue that can certainly be life-threatening.

There was also a brake failure problem, which implies at certain times the brakes didn’t even work and coupled with transmission issues that were a major deal-breaker.

Furthermore, it was found out that the electrical issues miscommunicated many things to the drivers, for example, a faulty door sensor made the car think that the door was always open and sometimes the engine check light would turn on for no reason.

The issues usually started around 80,000 miles, and some issues reported were easily fixed by replacing some components, however, when it comes to the engine, the issue can turn out to be expensive.

This 2012 Ford Edge only lasted 200,000 miles and after that, it was past its lifetime, there were many problems associated with this model as well, ranging from engine and brake issues.

Moreover, the infotainment system froze up as well, and at times the transmission got clunky. Coming back to the engine, it used to stall often and die just like its previous model and this issue started as early as 55,000 miles and continued until its lifetime unless fixed of course.

The brakes were also faulty, and at times very hard to use them failing at certain times, which became a serious issue. The car also came with an electrical issue which used to start at around 60,000 miles and that issue was the door ajar sensor failing.

All in all, in my opinion, it was a car that came with multiple issues that started pretty early, and for that reason, I’d recommend that you avoid this model.

The most major issue that this 2013 Ford Edge model had was its electrical problems, they were reported to have caused many incontinences for drivers and it was also an issue that received the most complaints.

This had the same issue; the door ajar light stayed on and along with the battery not keeping its charge.

Next comes the engine issue which was pretty much the same as before, the engine often stalled and the brakes at times became unresponsive these problems appeared as early as 44,000 miles.

On average most problems started showing up at around 50,000 miles and consequently cost around $500 to repair and fix, though, of course, the engine issue would be a bit more expensive depending on the severity of the issue.

The 2015 version of this Ford Edge was plagued with electrical issues as well, just like its old versions though it extended from the door light sensor to the reverse camera and the display system.

At times the reverse camera would fail to respond and sometimes the display would not show the result of the camera when the car would be reversed, the infotainment system also froze and the GPS failed often.

There were several problems with the structural integrity of the car. There were random noises that many drivers reported coming from the car and it even had many water leaks since the door seal was not tight enough to keep the water out of the car.

Speaking of water leakages, there was an oil leak reported by many customers of the car, the oil pan gasket was a serious issue and was leaking at times with the issue not being solved even after replacing it.

All of the issues discussed would start showing up slowly at around 60,000 miles and would consequently increase the cost of ownership as repairs pile up.

This year’s Ford Edge had most of the same issues as the previous models discussed, from engine issues to transmission problems and even electrical issues exactly like before.

The engine often stalled and caused disturbances to many people and even at times it failed to work, causing distress among many customers as it would cost a hefty amount to fix.

The transmission would sometimes fail to respond along with the brakes of the car, sometimes the electrical issues would display check lights for multiple things in the car that was not even faulty, making the driver get more confused as to what might be the actual issue.

Reliability reviews for the Ford Edge were mostly positive. It received 3.5 out of 5.0; it was placed 11th out of 26 vehicles.

Even though this car has multiple safety features and a good reliability rating, it can be considered mediocre when it comes to the general reliability of the car due to the overall issues that the car has presented throughout.

  • How Long Do Ford Edges Last?

Most Ford Edge versions typically have a lifespan of up to 200,000 miles, and that can further be increased up to 250,000 miles only if the driver takes immense care of the car and drives it in such a way that the car is not pushed beyond its limits.

And if the car is not maintained properly and is not driven in such a way that may be beneficial for it, it can give a minimum life span of 150,000 miles to the consumers.
