One of the most important things every car buyer must look out for when buying a new car today is the safety features of these vehicles. Gone are the days when car buyers focus only on the name and the exterior components of cars. The safety features must be considered today, as they provide car owners with great road safety while driving.

If you are in the market for a new car, here are the most important safety features to consider when selecting a car.

  1. Airbags

In 1999, airbags were mandatory for all passenger cars, trucks and vans. Currently, most SUVs and cars offer a minimum of six airbags. Cars like Toyota Camry even have ten airbags. Airbags are important to drivers and passengers as they prevent them from hitting their heads or being ejected through the windows.

  1. Antilock Brakes

Starting in 2000, anti-locks were made compulsory for vehicles. The sensor placed in each vehicle wheel is a monitor that reports grip, speed, and other performance factors to the car’s computer. This sensor communicates with and controls the brakes on each wheel. In general, anti-locks keep the wheels from locking up and skidding.

  1. Driver Assistance

Driver assistance features are one of the car’s most important safety features today. Over time, they keep increasing in number. Some of them include blind-spot detection, automatic emergency braking, frontal collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning. All of these features help drivers operate vehicles safely.

These safety features have saved lives, as they improve a vehicle’s accident-avoidance rating by preventing some incidents that could result if a  driver is distracted.

  1. Electronic Stability Control

Electronic stability control became mandatory in vehicles in 2012. This safety feature works with the anti-lock braking system sensors to keep the car going in whatever direction the car is steered. This safety feature also uses other sensors to measure steering angle and sideways motion.

For instance, the stability control uses your car’s sensors to correct a situation like when your car isn’t moving in the same direction your front wheels are pointed.

  1. Rearview Cameras

Rearview cameras became mandatory in 2018 for all vehicles. The rearview camera gives the driver a 360 view of the vehicle when used in parallel with rear and side view mirrors. Rearview cameras guide a driver while parking a vehicle and to know about pedestrians or vehicles behind.

Conclusion

When purchasing a car, it’s important to check out cars with all of these five safety features, as they are important to both the driver and the vehicle.
