There are solid cars, and these cars have lived for decades. Sooner or later, cars become too old, and subsequently, they malfunction. Every car has its shelf life, but some cars have lived past their shelf life and perform even better than most modern cars.

With many modern cars, the possibility of outliving 10-20 years or moving beyond 200,000 miles is impossible. But, the cars on this list have lasted for so long, made it past 300,000 miles, and are still as strong as ever. While they might not be modern and of interest to many, they’ll take you around Nigeria without any headache. Below are the cars;

1992 Toyota Camry (Onward)

One of the many reasons Toyota cars have had a good reputation in Nigeria is because they last a very long time. This 1992 Toyota Camry that has lasted for 30 years is a testament to that. From their 1992 car, Toyota started paying more attention to manufacturing cars with good shelf life. That’s why you will still easily find this car on Nigerian roads.

Although the car cannot be compared to some of the high-tech saloon cars in its class today, one thing it has going into check is its reliability and endurance.

1989 Honda Accord (Onward)

Like the 1992 Camry, Honda’s third and fourth-generation cars have a reputation for near-bulletproof reliability. Interestingly, this Honda car passed the million-mile mark in 2019. To date, it’s still one of the most efficient Honda cars, and in Nigeria, buyers are still trooping towards it for this reason.

1996 Volvo

We know this Volvo model is extinct, and not many people go after it anymore. But, this car can offer what most modern cars cannot. In 2013, this car entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the first car to reach the three million mile record on the 18th of September 2013.

1950 – 1979 Volkswagen Bettle

Almost anyone who knows the Volkwagen Beetle knows it’s one of the oldest cars ever made. It’s very rare to find many driving this car today, but, one thing is sure, the car still moves efficiently any day.

Although you won’t easily find spare parts for this car on the market, and it makes one of the ridiculous sounds, it’s still a very reliable car to date.

1975 Mercedes 240D/300D (Onward)

At some point in the early 2000s, this car had a defining moment in Nigeria. It was the car most associated with the wealthy; not everyone could afford it. Interestingly then, the car was already up to 20 years old.

To date, even as it has passed the 40 years benchmark, it’s still an efficient car you can drive around Nigeria. Indeed, Mercedes cars don’t die that easily. And, for the 1975 Mercedes 240D, you’ll be surprised you’ll find spare parts of it in the Nigerian market.

Ford Crown Victoria/ Mercury Marquis

The Ford Crown Victoria is another car that has had a good run. The car came with a robust V8 engine, a solid rear axle, a bulletproof transmission, and a body-on-frame design like a truck. Although Ford stopped production of the car in 2011, the car is still one of the strongest and oldest cars, performing excellently.

1987 – 2002 Jeep Cherokee XJ

You’ll find this 1987-2002 Jeep Cherokee on this list of cars that have refused to die. Although several parts of this car aren’t functioning smoothly anymore, it’s still an excellent off-roader and will run fine, whether off-road or on-road.

Conclusion

It’s tough to find cars that can match the strength of these cars today. Most of them are outdated and in a whacky form, but when it comes to performance, they’ll match several modern cars.
