2021 Toyota Avalon for sale – Toyota only made little changes to the 2021 Toyota Avalon sedan this year. All-wheel drive makes it to the Avalon lineup for 2021, and it’s optional on the XLE and Limited trims. Toyota is also introducing a Nightshade Edition on the sporty XSE trim, which adds black exterior trim and black 19-inch wheels. Elsewhere, the TRD model can be had with summer tires from the factory, the hybrid model receives a new lithium-ion battery pack that takes up less space, and Android Auto finally joins the roster of infotainment features.

Toyota Avalon was fully redesigned in 2019, we expect the 2021 Toyota Avalon to carry into the new model with all-wheel drive available on the Avalon for the first time, though it’s paired exclusively to a four-cylinder engine.

New Nightshade Edition adds black-painted exterior trim for a stealthy look and Android Auto and USB-C connectivity is now available. Now, the answer as to why the Camry got all-wheel drive is a bit more in-depth, as we describe in its own first drive. In short, customers and dealers were demanding an all-wheel-drive Camry from nearly the second the new generation launched, and people were continuing to leave sedans for crossovers in part due to all-wheel drive. As a result, Toyota of North America tasked its own Michigan-based engineers to create an all-wheel-drive Camry using components from the TNGA-K SUV models, the RAV4 and Highlander. Oh, and while you’re at it, they were told, do an Avalon, too.

The all-wheel-drive system is the RAV4 and Highlander’s base system, the so-called “Dynamic Torque Control AWD” that responds to driver steering and throttle inputs as well as to sensors associated with the traction and stability controls. An electromagnetically controlled coupler in the rear differential then engages the prop shaft, sending as much as 50% of available power in equal proportion to the rear wheels. Neither the Avalon nor Camry are available with the more advanced Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD that can proportion different amounts to each rear wheel. The brakes somewhat approximate this torque-vectoring effect when cornering, but it’s not as successful at improving road holding.

All Avalon sedans come with tech features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio, as well as driver-assistance amenities, such as blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control, and the pricing starts from

2021 Toyota Avalon Performance

The Avalon comes with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. All versions have a strut front and rear multi-link suspension, which translates into better wheel control and a more composed ride. The Avalon Touring also has adaptive dampers, which can adjust its ride quality through a drive-mode selector that ranges from comfort to sport settings. the Toyota Avalon’s a plush-riding performer.

Toyota offers the Avalon as either a V-6 charger or a hybrid fuel-sipper; we’re more fans of the latter, but in either case, the Avalon’s calling card is its supremely controlled ride. We give it a 6 for performance. In the Avalon Hybrid, 176-hp 2.5-liter inline-4 teams with an electric motor for a net 215 horsepower served up through a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The hybrid’s acceleration is more moderate in pace, and it can feel winded as it passes slower traffic or as it climbs hills. It’s still our chosen version, thanks to its stellar 43-mpg EPA combined fuel economy.
