Hybrid cars are gradually becoming mainstream as it’s become the dream of almost every car owner to own one. Car lovers are enthusiastic about the hybrid vehicle version because it gives them a taste and feel of powering a vehicle that has electric car features. But also retaining the reliability that comes with owning a gas-powered vehicle.

With a hybrid car, you get a little of both worlds, making it essentially one of the best vehicles for those who do not rely on electric cars, but also want to save on fuel.

Considering the ridiculous increase in the price of fuel in Nigeria, if you are looking for a vehicle that would help you minimize your vehicle’s fuel consumption, then hybrid vehicles should be your go-to.

In this article, we share some popular cars you’ll find in Nigeria that have hybrid versions you can purchase at affordable prices. Note that the prices highlighted above are close estimates and might be slightly higher than what you could get them for in the market.

The Toyota Corolla Hybrid

A hybrid version of the current 12th-generation Corolla is also offered. Only 5% of owners had any problems with their cars, and every single one of them had to do with the 12-volt battery system. The Corolla’s engines are indestructible, the electronics are faultless, and Toyota’s hybrid system runs without a hitch.

The Toyota Corolla is the most popular automobile on the planet for reasons other than just dependability. With a base price of $20,000 (equivalent to N17.5 million, using the current exchange rate), it includes a host of standard safety and comfort features.

Some of these features include LED lighting, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a rearview camera, a 7-inch infotainment screen, a Pre-Collision system, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assistance, and a number of other features. The hybrid variant is offered with gasoline engines averaging 52 mpg and 1.8 or 2.0 litres, respectively.

The Hyundai Tucson Hybrid

Hyundai won’t be left out in the list of the best affordable plug-in hybrid SUVs. We are sure you weren’t expecting this at all from the South Korean automaker. Hyundai is producing some of the most notable SUV nameplates, including the Kona, Tucson, Ioniq 5, and Palisade, but the car everyone knows is the Elantra, but sorry to disappoint you, the Tucana plug-in hybrid deserves to be on this list. The Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid targets a new vehicle segment in between the small SUV and small electric SUV segments.

The 2023 Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid’s price starts at N25,000,000, which is relatively cheap for the latest model hybrid vehicle, which is no surprise because Hyundai makes a very affordable car in their lineup.

It makes 261 horsepower using a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. The small plug-in hybrid SUV gets 80 MPGe. It can travel 33 miles on just electricity. Maybe it’s not as powerful as the RAV4 Prime, but it can surely hold its own against it.

The Honda Accord Hybrid

This Honda Accord is an amazing hybrid car that handles excellently. It is one of the most popular choices for hybrid lovers because of its efficiency, innovation, and performance. Its spacious trunk can contain a lot of equipment, bags, suitcases, groceries, and other space-consuming items. Some of its features include its super infotainment system, audio speaker system, Bluetooth connectivity, blind-spot monitoring, and forward-collision warning.

Not only is its level of quality, attention to detail, and refinement one of the best, but it also features a sporty turbocharged powertrain, and it comes in luxury variant designs. This accord is eco-friendly with active safety tech standards. It comes in 11 trim levels and with strong MPG figures such as its hybrid 2.0l l4 engine and front-wheel drive. It is estimated to deliver 48 MPG in the city and about 47 MPG on the highway.

It also features active noise cancellation, a heads-up display, front-cooled seats, in-car Wi-Fi, and a fabulous moon roof. This Honda Accord is one of the best and most amazing hybrid cars you can get today in Nigeria.

The Kia Niro Hybrid

South Korean automakers are well known for their reliable, affordable contemporary vehicles. One of the top options for those seeking a reliable SUV that won’t break the bank is the Kia Niro. Although delayed charging was resolved by a software update, several owners still expected greater sound insulation.

Three models of the Kia Niro are available: a gasoline hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, and a completely electric car. With a 1.6-litre gasoline engine and an 8.9 kWh battery, the plug-in hybrid has a 26-mile all-electric range. Parking sensors, semi-leather seats, cruise control, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are all included in the starting price of $24,690 (approximately N21 million, with the current exchange rate).

The Lexus NX Hybrid

The NX is another example of how Lexus has been successfully fusing elegance with dependability in the automobile market for more than 30 years. The Toyota RAV4’s chassis and drivetrain are used, but everything else is covered by expressive external styling, premium leather, and opulent equipment. Only 2% of the cars have experienced any problems, and almost all of them were minor annoyances, making the NX appear to be even more dependable than the RAV4.

The starting price is $37,950 (approximately N33 million, using the current exchange rate)However, the pre-owned versions of the Lexus NX  are available in Nigeria at a cheaper rate. Also, this hybrid model boasts a 2.5-litre I4 engine from Toyota.

Conclusion

If you are in the market for some latest model affordable strong hybrid vehicles to use in Nigeria, here are our top recommenders as they are not only vehicles popular in Nigeria, but those you could easily access their spare parts. Some of them already have their Tokunbo version in the market. As such, if the prices are too high for you, consider checking out their used models.
