Vans, like cars and buses, are road means of transport. They are typically bigger than a car, and of course have more capacity to carry more passengers and load. A distinguishing feature of vans is that they are often with side windows or rear seats.  As the economy and population in Ghana increases, more Ghanaians are turning to vans as an easier and safer means of transport, especially for their business needs.

Types Of Vans

There are many different kinds of vans on the road, but oftentimes, people assume all vans are the same. Truth is, not knowing the different kinds of vans will make it hard for you to know the one that suits your needs. Check out the different types of vans available in Ghana:

Panel Van

Panel vans are arguably the most popular kinds of vans on the road. They are commonly used by businessmen and companies to transport their goods from place to place. Panel vans often don’t have any side or rear windows. Popular panel vans are the Ford Transit and the Volkswagen Transporter.

Crew Van

With a crew van, there is space for your cargo as well as passengers. A crew van often has 3 seats in the front and a further 3 or 4 seats behind. There are two side windows present which are in line to the second row of seats. The most popular crew vans are Ford Transit Custom, Ford Transit and Vauxhall Vivaro which all offer extra passenger spaces and great load capacity.

Minibus

If your need for a van is to transport more people than goods, then a minibus should be one of your best options. Depending on the size, a minibus is able to convey about 9-17 passengers. Iveco, Ford and Mercedes are the most popular manufacturers of minibuses.

Chassis Van

A chassis van can be converted to suit any specific needs you require. It’s the basic form of van you can buy. Conversions of a chassis van usually result in a tipper, dropside or box van but they can also be converted into ice-cream vans or an ambulance.

Dropside Van

A dropside van is often used by people with heavy loads and equipment e.g builders. Loading and unloading of cargo is easier with a dropside van. A dropside van has a flatbed fitted on top of the ladder chassis and its sides drop down to open.

Box Van

If you need a van with extensive cargo space, a box van is a good choice. Like the name implies, the box van has a box/cube-shaped load area that is separate from the cab. The most popular box vans are Volkswagen Crafter and Mercedes Sprinter.

4×4 Vans

The 4X4 vans, though similar to a pickup, offer more features. The 4X4 van is an off-road vehicle but with more load space than a pick-up. They ensure you can drive off-road and in icy and snowy conditions, a popular 4×4 van is the Mercedes Sprinter.

Car-Derived Van

This type of van is a blend of car features with that of a van. Quite often, car-derived vans have no rear seats or side windows. Their maximum loading weight is 2 tonnes. The most popular models are the Vauxhall Astra and Corsa and the Ford Fiesta.

Easiest Way To Purchase A Van In Ghana

As the demand for vans increases, it’s important that buyers discover easy ways to secure the kind of vans they need. One of the easiest ways to buy a van in Ghana is to check out van dealers near you. These dealers are scattered all over Ghana including Accra, Greater Accra, Kumasi, Sekondi Takoradi, and Central Volta just to name a few. Once you have secured the location of the dealer, simply make your way there to pick the van that best suits you.

Another easy way to buy a van in Ghana is to check out online vehicle stores. These online stores have verified sellers who are willing to sell their vans. You can easily contact any of these sellers from here. However, before completing the purchase, make sure you see the van and test drive to be sure it’s in good condition.
