Honda is the second most popular car in Nigeria, next to Toyota, and one notable model that has captured the attention of drivers is the Honda Accord 2008–2012, fondly known as the “Evil Spirit.” Despite its popularity, like any car, it has its quirks, which we’ll explore further. In this article, we’ll look at four problems associated with the Honda Accord Evil spirit.

Overview of the Honda Accord Evil spirit

The Honda Accord 2008–2012, affectionately nicknamed the “Evil Spirit” in Nigeria, is a good contender in the mid-size sedan market, rivalling the Toyota Corolla and Camry. It offers a diverse range of trims, whether in sedan or coupe form. Engine choices include a 2.4L four-cylinder and a potent 3.5L V-6, delivering outputs of 177 hp to 271 hp, ensuring good power for diverse driving needs.

While the Accord has impressive performance with its agile handling and swift acceleration, its fuel economy falls slightly short of expectations compared to its rivals. The 2.4L engines achieve an estimated 23 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, while the V-6 variants manage 20 mpg city and 30 mpg highway for sedans and 19 mpg city and 29 mpg highway for coupes. Additionally, the brakes, while powerful, may require more distance to bring the vehicle to a complete stop, especially at higher speeds.

Inside, the Accord offers generous passenger space, particularly in the rear seats, ensuring comfort for occupants. However, the interior design lacks excitement, with a plethora of buttons cluttering the dashboard and materials that don’t quite meet Honda’s established standards. Despite this, the cabin’s spaciousness compensates for its lacklustre design, providing ample headroom and legroom for all passengers.

Safety-wise, the 2012 Accord comes equipped with essential features such as antilock disc brakes, airbags, stability control, and active head restraints, contributing to its favourable safety ratings in various tests. Pricing for Honda Accord Evil Spirit in Nigeria ranges from 3.5 million Naira to 6 million Naira for foreign used models and 1.6 million Naira to 2.5 million Naira for Nigerian used ones. Overall, the 2012 Honda Accord offers a blend of performance, comfort, and reliability, making it a compelling choice in its segment.

Problems with Buying the Honda Accord Evil-Spirit

  • Alternator Problem

Owners of the Honda Accord Evil spirit may encounter common alternator issues, affecting the car’s performance and reliability. These problems include battery drainage and starting issues due to improper charging, dimming lights indicating charging system problems, engine noises like whining or grinding suggesting alternator failure, and dashboard warning lights such as the battery or check engine light. The best thing to do is to change the alternator to avoid a more terrible situation immediately.

  • Ignition coils

The Honda Accord is a car that likes to kill ignition coils way earlier than it should. The ignition coils of any car are super important because they help make the engine run smoothly. But sometimes, they can start acting up, causing problems with how the engine works and how reliable the car is. You might notice things like the engine misfiring, rough idling, or losing power, and sometimes it might even stall. These issues can mess with how much gas your car uses and how clean it runs, which isn’t good. It’s really important to get these ignition coil problems fixed quickly to stop them from messing up other parts of the engine and to keep your car running smoothly. Just make sure to get your car checked regularly by a good mechanic to catch any ignition coil issues before they get worse.

  •  Blower motor

Another problem for Honda Accord Evil Spirit owners is with the blower motor. This part is what pushes air through your car’s vents for heating and cooling. When it’s not working right, you might notice less air coming out, strange noises like squealing or grinding, or the temperature inside the car being all over the place. This can make driving uncomfortable, especially if you can’t get the right heating or cooling. It can also make it hard to see out of your windows in cold weather. If you notice any of these issues, it’s important to get the blower motor checked by a mechanic. They can clean or replace it to keep your car’s heating and air conditioning working well. Taking care of blower motor problems early on will help you stay comfy while driving and prevent bigger problems down the road.

  • Suspension issues

Another problem with this car is problems with the suspension system. These can include things like your tires wearing out unevenly, your ride feeling rough or bumpy, or your car bouncing a lot after going over bumps. Signs that your suspension might be acting up include your car pulling to one side while you’re driving, feeling vibrations in the steering wheel, or hearing clunking noises when you hit bumps. To help prevent these issues, it’s a good idea to get regular maintenance done. This means checking your shocks and struts, looking for any wear on the suspension parts, and making sure your wheels are aligned properly.

Conclusion

Overall, the Honda Accord Evil Spirit is a great car choice for anyone looking for a stylish sedan. It is budget-friendly, and with good maintenance, it is very durable. Parts for this car are relatively cheaper than the other cars in its class. Sure, it has its quirks, but it still gives you a smooth ride overall!
