This Chinese car has a toyish-looking style but is not a toy. Rather, it’s an urban EV car. The car’s name is Geely Panda Mini, and it’s hoping to compete in an already hugely-saturated EV market.
One thing the tiny EV has going for it is its cute looks, but it also looks like it has a hint of Honda in it.
The car’s design is inspired by the Panda bear, with three-paw design wheel hubs and ear-like mirrors.
This explains why the pop-up exhibition featured plenty of Panda figures when it debuted at a shopping centre in the city of Hangzhou.
The car also had pink surrounding it and featured balloons, and the two Geely Panda Mini cars on display were pink and light blue.
The car looks remarkably like the Honda e, though. Maybe that’s got something to do with its friendly rounded appearance and the large LED headlights dominating the front end.
It’s also dinky in size and boxy in shape (120.6” long/ 59.9” wide? 62.9” tall/79.3” wheelbase), which is just like the Honda e.
The Geely’s designers didn’t spend much time designing the EV, as even the rear looks like a Nissan Cube.
It is, however, the first vehicle in its segment to feature a large panoramic moonroof.
The Panda Mini supposedly seats four passengers. How comfortable it’ll be for four grown adults is unknown.
The dashboard, also painted pink, features a large off-centre touchscreen infotainment system, an elongated digital instrument cluster, plenty of storage compartments, and a dedicated area beneath the vents for the climate controls.
Power Figures Of The Geely Panda Mini
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has provided the technical specifications.
The Panda Mini’s power comes from a single front-mounted electric motor producing 40 horsepower (30kW/41 PS).
Its lithium-iron-phosphate battery, provided by Guoxuan High-Tech, is claimed to offer approximately 150km (93 miles) range.
The Price Of The Geely Panda Mini
The brand is yet to reveal the price of the car. But the Geely Panda Mini is expected to be between 40,000 and 50,000 Yuan ($5,700 – $7,200). The car will also be officially launched in China in 2023.
