Honda has long teased the TrailSport offroad-oriented trim for its SUVs and pickup trucks, and the first model to use it is the 2022 redesigned Passport.
The Passport TrailSport’s more aggressive design is immediately noticed. Its stronger bumpers, distinctive grille treatment and bespoke machined 18-inch wheels speak to the new SUV’s off-road goals. TrailSport badges in orange are additional distinguishing features of this model.
Aside from the visual improvements, the Passport TrailSport has wider front and rear tracks (+ 10 millimetres / 0.4 inches), which Honda claims improve stance and stability. The ground clearance has been increased to 8.2 inches, and the i-VTM4 torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system with Intelligent Traction Management is now standard.
The interior of the Passport TrailSport is accented with orange contrast stitching and all-season rubber floor mats. Amber ambient lighting and a black chrome gauge surround are combined with an 8.0-inch infotainment screen that is standard across the range and includes smartphone integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The TrailSport, like other Passports, is powered by Honda’s iconic 3.5-litre V6 engine, which delivers 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The towing capability is 5,000 lbs.
The TrailSport isn’t the only thing getting a makeover for the 2022 model year; the normal Passport is also getting a makeover, as well as an optional HPD Package. The new makeover, designed by Honda Performance Development, comprises a new front grille, black fender flares, new wheels, and HPD graphics gracing the rear quarter panel to match the current Ridgeline with the HPD package.
