We talk a lot about Tesla cars but have you ever imagined how long it would take actually to charge a Tesla car to a full battery? According to US & World News Reports, many factors make it nearly impossible to know the exact time it takes to charge a Tesla car fully. However, there’s a solid idea of how long it will take to charge a Tesla.

Charging Levels Of Tesla & EV Cars

There are Level 1, Level 2, and DC Fast Charging levels for Tesla and EV charging. You’ll sometimes see DC Fast Charging and Tesla Supercharging, which are essentially the same, referred to as Level 3 charging.

However, there’s nothing in the official SAE standard that mentions Level 3. Sort of like slang, it doesn’t officially exist, but Level 3 is becoming more widely used and understood in the automotive community.

Level 1 charging refers to plugging your electric car into a standard 120-volt wall outlet, just like you plug in anything that you own. It’s a slow method and won’t likely be okay for most EV owners.

Level 2 charging requires a 240-volt outlet and higher amperage than Level 1 charging. Level 2 charging is what most EV owners rely on at home since it can recharge their car while they’re sleeping. There are Level 2 public charging stations in various places of business, like malls, hotels, and restaurants.

DC charging is the fastest way to charge any EV. The Tesla Supercharger network is the most comprehensive DC Fast Charging network, with locations on key travel routes across the globe.

The Tesla Car Charging Speeds

Tesla has four EVs—the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and the Model X. All these models have different charging times. However, the time it takes to add miles at a Supercharger is relatively similar across all the models.

Firstly, it’s not advisable to let your EV car’s battery reduce by up to 0%. Allowing your battery to go empty is not only bad for the battery but also causes range anxiety and can leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere.

It takes time for EV batteries to charge to 100. EVs charge fasters when the battery is low; once it gets to 80%, it starts charging slowly. It’s okay to charge your battery to 80% at least; the best time to charge it to 100% is at night while you’re sleeping.

Charging a Tesla to 100 through Level 1 charging can take up to 4-8 days because of how slow Level 1 is. So, here’s an estimate of how long it’ll take you to charge a Tesla from 0-100 via Level 2.
