The air conditioner is an essential feature in a car. In a country like Nigeria, the air conditioner inside your car has to be fully functional. Driving under the scorching sun can make any journey tedious and tiring. A functional car air conditioner system ensures that insects and parasites in your car are at the barest minimum. It also ensures that you have a cool ambience inside your car.

Your health is also preserved when you have a functioning AC system as you don’t have to inhale contaminated air coming from outside.

There is no way you can enjoy the benefits of a car air conditioner system if it’s faulty. If you are far from a mechanic or you don’t want to unnecessarily spend cash fixing a faulty air conditioner, https://carpulse.ng brings you some simple practices you can use to fix your car’s air conditioner at home. Please note that these practices will help you fix common problems that affect a car’s air conditioner.

Let’s go;

Practice 1: Check The Air Flow

Checking the airflow is an important process as it helps you know if the air released through the cabin air filter is warm or cold. Sometimes, car owners complain of their air conditioners releasing warm air. The first thing to do in this case is to check the level of airflow. You will recognize your airflow by turning your air conditioner to the highest level.

If the air is cool enough, it means your cabin air filter is working properly. If otherwise, it means you have to replace the cabin air filter.

Practice 2: Diagnose Electrical Issues

Certain problems that affect your car’s air conditioner is an electrical issues, these problems have to be approached carefully to avoid personal damage. Most often, electrical issues will require you to check the air conditioner compressor and the cooling fan. A thorough check should be carried out on the engine by making sure that the middle of the pulley corresponds with other parts of the pulley. If there is no alignment in the pulley system, it means there is a problem.

The compressor is one of the component units. If there is an issue with the compressor, you need to observe if the compressor is having an internal problem. The compressor should ordinarily be connected to a clutch with a wire. The compressor is a belt-down device that compresses the refrigerant gas and transfers it into a condenser. After you locate the connector, you have to unplug and check the battery’s current. When there is the absence of current, it means the compressor has to be replaced, otherwise, your air conditioner won’t work properly

Practice 3: Change The Refrigerant

Part of the required maintenance for a car is that you change the air refrigerant, otherwise, you won’t get the best out of your car’s air conditioner. You can’t use any kind of refrigerant, you need to find the ideal and best one for your car. If need be, consult a trained mechanic to help you make the best pick. Remember, a working air conditioner makes the driving experience exciting

Practice 4: Properly Clean The Port And Cap

A dirty port and cap will affect the compressor of the AC system, and eventually affect the optimal functioning of the car. To locate the port and cap you need to carefully trace the line that connects the compressor to the bottom of your car. You need to remove the cap and do proper cleaning of the port and cap.

Practice 5: Fill In The Refrigerant

The last practice you need to imbibe when fixing your refrigerant at home is to fill the refrigerant. The filling of refrigerant into your car’s air conditioner system has to be done carefully. If you notice any leakages when filling the refrigerant, it indicates that there is a problem and you have to visit your mechanic to block the leakages. All you have to do at this last step is to turn the refrigerant can on till it forces open the seal. Once the seal is broken, the refrigerant will be closed.

When filling the refrigerant, keep an eye on the pressure as the gauge indicates it. The refrigerant needs to be kept upright for the refrigerant to pass through smoothly. Keep filling the gauge until it is full of pressure. This process is to check for any leakages. Once you spot anyone, you may need to visit your mechanic or you can decide to fix this by closing the gap when the refrigerant is filled up.

Conclusion

Common air conditioner problems can be fixed at home. Follow these practices above to avoid spending money and time at the mechanic’s shop. However, if the damage to your car’s air conditioner system is beyond you, kindly do well to contact your mechanic for help.
