Within the space of a few months, the price of international flights from Nigeria to Europe (precisely London) has moved from N3 million to N5 million, and the prices are still expected to increase in the coming months.
This new increase in price is coming with the Niger Republic situation where the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) announced the closure of the Niger Republic airspace, as ECOWAS threatens and demands that the President of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum be reinstated or the country faces military action.
According to reports by DailyTrust, the common route for Nigeria to London, France, Spain, Ireland, and many other European countries trips was the Nigerien Airspace via Niamey. With the border closure, Nigerians travelling to Europe are forced to use other Airlines like the Virgin Atlantic Airline.
Reports show that a Nigeria to London trip on Virgin Atlantic currently is about $3,128. 30 (N2.42 million) to as high as $7,578.20 (N5.87 million)using the current exchange rate of N774.78 for $1.
Other Airlines like the British Airways flight charges are between $2,367 (N1.83 million) to $8,596 (N6.6 million) for a one-way ticket from Nigeria to London.
