One of the amazing things about Nigeria is that it is home to various kinds of car brands. It’s not hard to find Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Mercedes Benz, Lamborghini, etc. While these may sound like conventional brands that are easy to come by let me shock you, an unconventional car brand has been spotted in Nigeria too – the Tesla Model S from Tesla Inc.
Before, we continue, a brief background about Tesla Inc.
What you need to know about Tesla
Tesla Inc., a company established in Palo Alto, California, United States of America, is into the manufacture of electric vehicles, solar panels, battery energy storage, etc. You must have heard of Elon Musk, the new richest man in the world; he is the CEO of Tesla Inc., yea, that’s right. The name Tesla was gotten from the famous historical inventor, Nikolas Tesla.

Tesla’s electric car parts are manufactured and assembled at the company’s factory in Fremont, California. Various models of Tesla cars are produced by all-electric vehicles. These are:

Up till now, only Tesla Model S has been spotted in Nigeria. In this article, we bring to you a detailed review of the Tesla Model S.
Tesla Model S
When speaking of luxury cars with good performance and smooth rides, then don’t look too far; the Tesla Model S electric vehicle is a perfect example. Let’s start with interior design.

The Model S offers a breath-taking interior design with a panoramic glass roof, a rearview camera and a 17-inch touch-screen infotainment system with an 11-speaker stereo, satellite radio, wireless device charging, two USB ports, Bluetooth, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Unlike regular petrol-powered cars where power is gradually gained to begin moving, the performance of the Tesla Model S is such that as soon as it is ignited, it zooms off immediately. Whoosh!
The Model S offers a full-time all-wheel-drive (AWD), such that acceleration is uniform on all wheels. Long-range Model S can attain an acceleration of 0-60 mph in 3.7s and a top speed of 155mph; with an estimated range of 412 miles. The Performance Model S has an even journey of 0-60mph at 2.4s.
Two electric motors (one at the front and the other at the back) are responsible for the immense power that sponsors the Tesla Model S’s performance. The electric motors generate a combined 534 hp and 557 lb-ft of torque, transferred to all four wheels with single-speed automatic transmission.
- Power
One of the impressive and outstanding innovations of Tesla cars is that you don’t have to spend a dime on gas or petrol to power. Tesla cars are powered by electricity or solar; this provides a cleaner source of generating energy and a sustainable environment; since poisonous gases are not released into the environment. Tesla prides itself on being able to produce cars that go on long-distance electric travel.
- Battery Life
Tesla has a very brilliant structure for their cars, and a single part is wisely crafted to fit into its perfect place for optimal productivity. At the base of the Tesla Model S car is seated the powerful battery, which can power a 412-mile journey at a single full charge. The battery is carefully designed and placed underneath the floor of the car giving a low centre of gravity and evenly distributing its weight on every corner of the car.

Tesla cars come with cables to enable you to charge your car. You can charge anywhere, whether at home, workplace or at public places. However, according to Tesla, charging at home or the workplace is recommended. To charge the Tesla Model S, Tesla provides A Tesla Wall Connector with a cable length of either 8.5’ or 24’.
However, when you are on a trip, Tesla Superchargers are your best bet for pumping power into your car. The battery has a capacity of 100kWh and can become fully charged between 4-8 hours depending on the voltage and current of light supplied.
