Kia may not be one of the most popular brands in Nigeria, but the automaker has entered the electric vehicle (EV) market with the introduction of a new electric compact SUV called the EV5. This model features a design similar to that of the larger EV9 crossover. While Kia has confirmed that the EV5 will be sold in China, South Korea, Canada, and Mexico, Nigeria was not explicitly mentioned.
However, as “Nigeria no dey carry last,” the fully electric 2024 Kia EV5 has made its way into the country and is now available for purchase. It should be noted that Kia has stated this SUV will not be sold in the U.S.

Now, for the key specifications: The Air Standard Range comes with a 64.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering a claimed range of 400 kilometres. All other models are powered by the same 88.1 kWh battery, providing ranges of 555 kilometres for the Air Long Range, 500 kilometres for the Earth, and 470 kilometres for the GT-Line.
Kia has introduced a variety of advanced technology features, including twin 12.3-inch screens that support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker sound system, and built-in navigation.
The Earth model is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, upgraded faux leather seats, a powered tailgate, and a standard external V2L connection. The GT-Line, on the other hand, boasts 20-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, “premium relaxation” seats, wireless phone charging, a head-up display, and fingerprint recognition.

Buying the 2024 Kia EV5 is frequently compared to purchasing a Tesla Model Y, as the Korean electric SUV is marketed as a competitor to Tesla. However, the Kia EV5 often falls short in terms of size, price, and brand prestige, which makes it challenging to compete with Tesla’s dominance. That said, the 2024 Kia EV5 is slightly more affordable; it is priced at ₦100,000,000, whereas the Tesla Model Y starts at ₦120,000,000.
