Officials say that at least 40 bodies have been found after a plane with 72 people on board crashed near an airport in central Nepal.
The flight from Kathmandu to the tourist town of Pokhara on Yeti Airlines crashed on landing and caught fire.
Videos shared on social media show an airplane flying low over a populated area before making a sharp turn.
There were 68 passengers, at least 15 of whom were from other countries, and four crew members.
Hundreds of Nepalese soldiers are working at the crash site in the Seti River Gorge, which is only one and a half kilometers from the airport.
A video taken near where the plane crashed shows thick black smoke and burning pieces of the plane.
A spokesman for the army told Reuters, “The plane is in pieces, so we expect to find more bodies.”
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal called an emergency meeting of his cabinet and told state agencies to help with rescue efforts.
53 of the people on the plane are said to be from Nepal. On the plane, there were five Indians, four Russians, and two Koreans. There was also one person from Ireland, one from Australia, one from Argentina, and one from France.
Nepal has a lot of aviation accidents because its runways are often far away and the weather can change quickly, which can make for dangerous conditions.
