Tems was born on the 11th of June, 1995 to a British father and a Nigerian mother. She had her early years in the UK but had to return to Nigeria at the age of five after her parents divorced. Returning to Nigeria, Tems lived with her mum and brother in Ajah, Lagos State.
She attended Dowen College for her secondary school education, after which she travelled to South Africa to have a degree in Economics.

During her time in the choir, Tems was lucky to find someone who first took her to the studio. Through her stay at the University, Tems maintained her passion for music. She kept on singing, training her voice, freestyling with various songs and writing a few lines of songs of her own too.
her journey in the music industry began at the age of 20 when she released her first EP titled “Time Swap EP” in 2013. However, the song didn’t make as many breakthroughs as she expected, however, this never discouraged her.
Returning to Nigeria after school, Tems got a job as a digital marketer which she had to quit after a while to pursue full time her long-seated passion for music. The decision happened to be the right one, as shortly after that, in 2018, she released her first single ‘Mr. Rebel’. Mr Rebel gained a lot of praise and approval from Nigerians, especially on social media. A year after, Tems released ‘Try me’, another great hit that further brought her to stardom. Since the release of the song, Try Me, has gained over 2 million views on YouTube.
Tems hasn’t relented in forging her unique part in the music industry. In September 2020, she released her EP titled “For Broken Ears’. One of the tracks in the album, ‘Damages’ has been rocking the airways in the music industry.
In 2020, American singer Khalid invited Tems to join him and fellow Nigerian Davido on an Afrobeats remix of “Know Your Worth”. That same year, her collaboration with Wizkid on their song “Essence” earned her a number one spot on the BBC 1Xtra Airplay Chart.
