It is not news anymore that a Nigerian man by the name of Kunle Adeyanju rode a bike from London in Europe to Lagos in West Africa. The journey took a total of 41 days. It will interest you to know that Adeyanju has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro twice and he has also ridden a bike from Accra, Ghana to Lagos, Nigeria within three days.

We can call this man a daredevil who isn’t afraid to take risks even at the cost of his life. He told CNN reporters that while riding through the Sahara desert, he ran out of water and would have died there but fortunately enough for him, he saw a group of people on safari and the water they gave him saved his life.

Adeyanju took this trip as a way to raise funds to eradicate polio in Nigeria. The trip was taken on behalf of the Rotary Club. He also stated that he was really interested in eradicating polio because a childhood friend of his had suffered from the dreaded ailment which eventually led to his death.

This act attracted both local and international attention as quite a number of people worldwide were following this trip.

With that being said, let’s talk about the power bike that was used to attain this rare feat.

  • HONDA CB500X

This superb bike that rode across two continents was referred to as ‘the eagle’ by Adeyanju. On arriving in Lagos, Adeyanju announced that he was going to auction the bike to the highest bidder.

It is however worthy to note that the bike had a ruptured tyre during the journey and it was repaired. But its rider complained that the tyre kept on giving him issues along the way, despite the number of times it was fixed. He also drew the attention of the manufacturers, Honda, to the problem. It is not certain if he received a reply from Honda.

The Honda CB500X is powered by a 471cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 46.93hp and a torque of 43.2 Nm. With both front and rear disc brakes, Honda CB500X comes up with an anti-locking braking system. This CB500X bike weighs 199 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 17.7 litres.

The CB500X packs a rugged design along with features such as full-LED lighting and a negative LCD instrument cluster. Apart from the standard data, the display also shows information such as gear position indicator, engine temperature indicator, and ABS indicator.

The styling cues include a sharp design for the headlight, a semi-fairing, single-piece saddle, a tall windscreen, and an upswept exhaust. The motorcycle rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels that are wrapped in tubeless tyres. The CB500X is built around a diamond-shaped steel-tube mainframe and it uses telescopic forks at the front and a nine-step preload-adjustable mono-shock to perform the shock absorption tasks. The anchoring duties are performed by a 310mm front disc and a 240mm rear rotor while the safety net includes dual-channel ABS. The motorcycle also packs Emergency Stop Signal and Honda Ignition Security System.

Mechanical specifications include a 471cc, eight-valve, liquid-cooled, parallel twin-cylinder motor that is tuned to produce 47bhp of maximum power at 8,500rpm and 43.2Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. The engine is linked to a six-speed gearbox that features an assist and a slipper clutch mechanism.

Why You Should Own A Power Bike

Power bikes are for the adventurous as it provides an exhilarating speed for the rider. Many riders in Nigeria have often posted on their social media how they’ve ridden across many states within a short time. That is what a power bike can do.

  1. The power bike isn’t for the faint at heart. You should own a power bike because you want to and not out of peer pressure. It’ll be a total waste for one to buy a bike and keep it in their garage without allowing the bike to maximise its speed.
  2. Owning a power bike gives you access to an exclusive bikers club which has the rich and powerful as their members. So if you are ready to pay the membership fee, please feel free to buy a power bike and join the bourgeois in the society.
  3. Riding a power bike is a great outdoor activity.
  4. This may seem vain but riding a power bike makes you look cool. You get stared at by people on the streets as your bike commands their attention.
