The Toyota and Lexus brands are two brands that have nearly perfect cars for the average Nigerian, but the Nigerian sun managed to tarnish the strong, positive reputation of a handful of Lexus and Toyota vehicles between 2003 and 2013. The alternating weather can melt or crack the dashboard.

Toyota has been sued over and over for this issue. The problem is really all over the world, but Nigerians love their Tokunbo cars, so dashboard melting and cracking is a frequent occurrences here. We found a solution to this error in my car. Before we get to the solution, here is a list of all Toyota and Lexus vehicles with dashboard popping and melting issues in Nigeria.

follow this solution to solve your Dashboard Melting/Cracking Problem

Melting Dashboard Repair Kit

There’s a kit for sale at about N15,000 that you apply to the car’s dashboard regularly. This will prevent the dash from getting sticky, These kits come with everything you need to repair small cracks or holes in the dashboard. They typically include a filler and a hardener that is mixed together to create a repair compound.

Sewing A New Dash Leather

An Upholstery technician can sew new leather on your car’s dash but you need to make sure the person is good with this type of job.

The outcome could piss you off if not properly done well but there are a lot of well-done ones around and you can Contact @Carfanzy Lagos on Instagram.

Use Of Dashboard Mats

This is the easiest and cheapest correctional measure for this cracking/melting dash in your Lexus/Toyota.

There are different ranges of mats or Dashboard cover from N5,000 to N10,000, It just depends on your taste and budget. The goal is to cover up to avoid the sun hitting the surface of your dashboard, Carfanzy Lagos sells it cheaper on Instagram or even on their website www.carfanzy.ng.

Replacement dashboards

If the damage is severe, a replacement dashboard may be necessary. This will involve removing the old dashboard and installing a new one. This can be a more expensive option but it is the most complete solution.

Tint Your Car Windows

Tinting your windows immediately after you buy the car would reduce the effect of the sun rays that causes this melting/cracking, this solution is a preventive measure but the Nigerian sun is stronger than tints.

So, if you tint your windows you might still need 1-3 solution

Cars affected are:

  • 2008 – 2006 Lexus ES 350
  • 2003 – 2008 Lexus GX 470
  • 2006 – 2008 Lexus IS 250 and 350,
  • 2007 Lexus LS 460
  • 2004 – 2006 Lexus RX 330
  • 2007 – 2008 Lexus RX 350
  • 2005 – 08 Lexus RX400h,
  • 2003 – 2005 4Runner
  • 2005 – 2010 Toyota Avalon
  • 2007 – 2011 Toyota Camry
  • 2004 – 2010 Toyota Sienna and Solara

A messy dashboard reduces the value of your car It is better to tackle it from day one.
