The Netherlands has an overall resident population that is estimated at 17.2 million. Yet, the country has over 22 million bikes. Bikes and public transportation are the cheapest means of transportation for those living in this country. Why? Because cars are considered extremely expensive for the average person in the Netherlands.

However, you’ll still find cheap and affordable cars in the Netherlands. Interestingly, these cheap vehicles are not popularly known cars and are mostly found in Europe and the Netherlands.

If you live in the Netherlands and are wondering about the cheapest car options to select from, here are the top five cheapest cars everyone in the Netherlands has been talking about.

  1. Mitsubishi Space Star – €11,390

The Mitsubishi car brand is a popular company that owns the Space Star. Currently, this Space Star is the number one cheapest vehicle you’ll find in the entirety of the Netherlands. The price of the vehicle is currently €11,390 in the Dutch market.

This Mitsubishi Space Star is a functional, reliable, and good-looking car. The vehicle also promises low consumption and low maintenance costs. The Mitsubishi  Space Star uses a 1.2-litre three-cylinder with a manual five-speed gearbox. The car has only a small cargo space, but what owners love most about it is its appearance and good driving characteristics.

  1. Skoda Citigo – €11,941

The second cheapest car in the Netherlands is Skoda Citigo. It is a very cheap car, with its price starting from under €10,000. Skoda Citigo has an accurate, modern design and has a surprising amount of space for its size. It’s quite similar to the Hyundai i10 and Kia Picanto in terms of capacity.

However, it’s not a fast car. Still, it’s very comfortable and quiet on the Netherlands’ roads, and decent handling ensures a superb all-rounder for a city car.

In the Dutch market, the price range of the Skoda Citigo is between €9,853 to €14,029. At the same time, the average purchasing price of the Skoda Citigo is earmarked at  €11,941.

  1. Toyota Aygo – €13,595

For a while, the Toyota Aygo has been counted among the cheapest cars in the Netherlands. The vehicle is a four-seater and is identical to the Peugeot 108. Before other vehicles took the number 1 and 2 spot, the Toyota Aygo was the cheapest car in the Netherlands, but after the cancellation of the three-door version, it lost the most affordable models.

The cheapest Aygo is now called 1.0VVT-i x and costs about €13,595. It has a sporty-like and bold design, making it a good-looking car. Added bonus is that the cheapest Toyota Aygo has built-in air conditioning.

  1. Hyundai i10 – €13,635

The Hyundai i10 is a cheap and very popular car available in the Netherlands and has excellent grades for safety tests. It’s well equipped with several safety features, such as the high beam assist (HBA). The Hyundai i10 has an appealing technology system, like the state-of-the-art built-in navigation systems in the vehicle. The vehicle also has plenty of cargo space and legroom for passengers.

Overall, the car has an attractive but plastic-made interior design and the limited power of the three-cylinder engine. In the Netherlands, a brand-new Hyundai i10 costs from €9,995 and rises to €13,635 if you opt for an air-conditioned i-Drive Cool variant set.

  1. Dacia Sandero – €13,790

Dacia Sandero is one of the most affordable cars in the Netherlands and Europe in general. It’s regarded as Europe’s best-selling ‘retail’ car for the last three years, with over two million purchases since 2004.

The car’s starting price is between €13,790 and €16,000. Dacia Sandero is a compact five-door hatchback with great driving characteristics. It’s a perfect car for beginner drivers as it has less maintenance cost.

The Dacia Sandero uses modern engines that are compliant with the latest EU emissions standards. Most versions of the Sandero have a powerful six-speed gearbox, and the inside has enough space for five people and their luggage.

Dacia Sandero comes equipped with a CVT automatic gearbox, cruise control, climate control, Apple CarPlay, parking camera, and keyless entry.

Conclusion

The above-listed vehicles are the five top cheapest vehicles you’ll find in the Netherlands today. Interestingly, most of these cars are designed specifically for European roads, and it’ll be uncommon to find them outside of the Netherlands or Europe.
