Tyre! Tyre.. I am very certain everyone knows what a TYRE is. A Tyre is a round rubber object that, like a pair of human shoes, interfaces with the earth’s surface (either a tarred road or a beaten track) while it seems like it’s carrying the whole weight of the vehicle. The wheel, like a pair of natural feet that wears the shoes, is the round mechanical object that the tyre is worn around.

In Nigeria, Car owners always ask for car tyres that are durable because of the condition of our roads, while some car owners probably think they didn’t get the best tyres, thinking that’s the reason for their experiencing frequent car damage.

But the truth is failure to maintain your tyre will eventually result in car damage, poor tyre maintenance can lead to premature tyre wear, a flat tyre or even a blowout. Caring for your tyres not only makes your vehicle safer to drive but also ensures your vehicle performs to its intended specs.

After all, tyres are what allow you and your vehicle to roll down the road. The main functions of a vehicle’s tyres include supporting the vehicle load, transmitting traction and braking forces to the road surface, absorbing road shocks, and changing and maintaining the direction of travel.

  1. Choose your tyres carefully

In Nigeria today, many car owners purchase tyres based on cheap price or appearance. But that shouldn’t be the case, rather tyre selection should be based on the correct size recommended for the vehicle and its load recommendations.

  1. Tire Gauge Availability

Make sure to have and keep a tyre gauge in your car always,  It will inform you if you need to add more air to your tyres.

  1. Regular Inspection

Make sure you frequently do a visual check and tread depth by using a tread depth gauge, make sure to replace tyres if the tread is below 1.6mm

  1. Proper Inflation

Check for pressure by using a reliable pressure gauge, also adjust for load by increasing pressure while carrying heavy loads.

  1. Alignment and Balancing

Always make sure your wheels are aligned to avoid uneven tyre wear and balance your tyres regularly to reduce vibrations and increase lifespan.

  1. Rotation Schedule

For longer usage, make sure you change your tyre position for every 5,000 to 7,500 kilometres to ensure even wear.

  1. Driving Habit

This part is extremely necessary, make sure to refrain from sudden starts, stops, and sharp turns to reduce tears. Also, ensure driving within the speed limit to prevent overheating.

  1. Road Awareness

Watch out for bad roads especially in rural areas by adjusting your driving speed, and also avoid portholes and debris.

  1. Emergency Readiness

Make sure you’re always ready for emergencies by having a functional spare tyre, and tyre repair kits for minor punctures.

  1. Regular General Servicing

Before you embark on a long journey, aside from a personal tyre check, have your tyres checked by experts occasionally.

Strictly going by these tyre safety best maintenance, you can keep your travels safe, help your car last longer, and save money from unnecessary expenses of frequent repairs or replacement.
