When it comes to SUVs that are rugged and strong, getting a Ford might be the best idea. Although not as popular as the Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot, the Ford Escape is one car Nigerians love buying used. In the global market, Ford is known for manufacturing the best trucks around, and the love for their trucks transcended to their SUVs, which many might love, but one thing this American car is known for is probably not its value.

That can be quite disappointing because most people buy their cars just because they think they might be able to resell them for double their original price after just a couple of years of use. Carmart.ng has a number of educational blogs to help you find the cars with the best value so that you are aware of them when you wish to buy them. If you want to know why the Ford Escape is the only car that doesn’t retain any value, keep reading this blog.

When buying a car, you would want to buy one that would ultimately last you a long time, but not only that; you would also want to buy a car that retains its value over time. Value in the sense that it can be resold for probably double its price, but value doesn’t just stop there. Value in the sense that it won’t be breaking down many times but also has a low maintenance cost. The Ford Escape is one car living on the prestige of the Ford F150 in the Nigerian market. We know that Ford cars are very tough and rugged to handle harsh road situations, but not every Ford vehicle is the same when it comes to this. Some Ford cars are known to give their owners a serious headache, and the worst part about this is that their spare parts cannot easily be found in the car parts market. What this means is that if you plan on buying a Ford car in Nigeria, you would have to put this into consideration. the possibility that your Ford car would take some time to get fixed. Read this blog to find out why the Ford Escape is a car that doesn’t retain value.

Why buy the Ford Escape in the first place?

One thing about this car is that it is very cheap. The used Escape starts at about N80,000,000 It starts off with a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 181 horsepower, which we would have to admit is pretty tame. These automakers offer three additional powertrain choices, including two hybrid models. There is a PHEV option as well as a conventional hybrid; the intro-advanced hybrid features come with better fuel economy and power. The final petrol option is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 250 horsepower, but it doesn’t come cheap; the price can rise to N27,000,000.

These choices might seem appealing, but they also contribute to Escape’s downfall. The SUV’s base pricing is competitive with that of its rivals, but buyers who want a high-end trim must fork over much more money, and most won’t want to do that because they could get better features in other cars. The Escape doesn’t have any obvious flaws or difficulties; instead, it just fails to provide consumers with a standout value proposition.

What makes the Ford Escape valueless?

  • Difficulties with the Ford Escape’s ignition malfunction

The most frequent issue experienced by Ford Escape owners is ignition misfires.

Many customers reported that the ignition coils needed to be changed due to failure. A new coil and installation often cost between N15,000 and N40,000.

It affects all engine sizes and all model years from 2001 to 2013, making it a pervasive issue. It is crucial to remember that if you run into this problem, you should get it fixed right away to prevent harm to other car parts.

  • Transmission failure

A significant problem reported by Ford Escape owners is transmission failure. This vehicle’s top two complaints are related to transmission failure after around 70,000 miles. The worst years for this specific problem were 2014 and 2008.

Though a few owners were able to rebuild their transmissions, this is the most typical fix mentioned by owners. The average cost of fixing this problem is between N100,000 and N185,000.

2023 Ford Escape Price by Trim

The full pricing breakdown is as follows (prices include a $1,495 destination fee, unchanged from 2022):

  • Base: $28,995
  • Active: $30,340
  • Platinum: $37,460
  • ST-Line: $31,335
  • ST-Line Select: $35,535
  • ST-Line Elite: $39,955
  • Plug-in Hybrid: $39,995

The 2023 Ford Escape is available for preorder now and will be showing up in showrooms early in 2023.

Yet, the 2023 Ford Escape has certain advantageous features

Although some auto reviewers weren’t fans of the Escape’s pricey extras, the base model is still a respectable vehicle. You would be particularly fond of the Escape’s interior. This shouldn’t come as a surprise because the SUV’s interior was improved for the 2023 model year. The SUV can seat five people and has cloth upholstery. The seats are roomy. Drivers can replace it with fake leather or genuine leather upholstery.

The infotainment system on the Escape was one of the primary improvements. Both the touchscreen and the digital gauge cluster display are 8 inches in size. The digital gauge cluster display and touch screen can both be upgraded by owners to a 12.3-inch size. Perhaps more significantly, Ford’s Sync 4 infotainment system is now standard on the Escape. This is the most recent iteration of the automaker’s infotainment system.

The Ford Escape is one car that is good on the surface, but it lacks the necessary details for value. With this blog, you can take note of these things.
