The new 2022 Cayman GT4 RS, fitted with the GT3’s mighty power plant and a multitude of performance enhancements, conclusively represents the nth degree of the fourth generation (982-series) Cayman chassis development and the result is strikingly spectacular.

Introducing the latest model, the boss of Porsche’s legendary GT department, Andreas Preuninger, explained: “The GT4 RS started life as a car, not as a PowerPoint presentation.” He is the man that has been responsible for an entire generation of Porsche’s very best sports cars over the past 15 years

The vehicle in question is a 4.0-litre flat-six that has been lifted straight from the rear of the 911 GT3 and the only reason it has 10 horsepower less than its big brother is that it sits in the middle of the Cayman’s chassis. This is to ensure its exhaust gases have further to travel before they reach the tailpipes.

Even so, the 496 horsepower at 8,400rpm and 450 pound-ft of torque at 6,750rpm is not exactly disappointing outputs. Not when the red line remains at an ear-shattering 9,000rpm and the kerb weight is just 1,415kg, meaning that the GT4 RS is 35kg lighter than a regular GT4 PDK and 20kg lighter than the auto GT3.

The driving position is slightly hunched forward owing to the fixed-angle one-piece buckets—18-way adjustable seats are available with no price cost but this absolutely suits on-track and aggressive driving because it puts the driver upon the wheel in a way that generates more leverage.

The price tag of this ‘amazing’ car is quite fair at N59.4 million and even though production numbers would not be restricted, Porsche will only build around 7,000 examples in total, and demand is already sky high. You are likely to get a car by next year if you order one today.
